CARE
14K & 18K GOLD VERMEIL
Pronounced “ver-may”. Gold vermeil is at least 10K gold (we use 14K and 18K gold) that is a minimum of 2.5 microns thick and layered over 925 sterling silver. These strict standards must be met for jewellery to be called vermeil, our vermeil is made from premium gold and sterling silver.
Gold plated jewellery on the other hand contains a thin layer of gold over another base metal where there is no thickness or regulation requirements for the plating and no standard for what the base metal is.
As with all jewellery, it’s recommended that it should avoid encountering chemicals. Most places where you would get your jewellery wet contain chemicals which can affect the wearability and life of your pieces. For example, pools may have chlorine; in the shower- shampoos and conditioners.
GREEN EMERALDS
Emeralds are the softest gemstone known to man, so they require extra care. We recommend removing your emeralds when changing temperature, for example; having a hot shower and blow-drying your hair. The vast changing of temperatures can affect the stones greatly. We also recommend that you remove your jewellery while exercising, playing sport and swimming in the ocean. While you can swim with your solid gold emeralds, we suggest you avoid it.
Unlike the other precious stones, which can be found in a variety of colours, emeralds are only ever green, their hues range from yellow-green to deep jade.
Clean by polishing gently with a lint-free clot, our emerald huggies should never be cleaned with chemicals or an ultrasound machine.
SAPPHIRES
Barrington has created these pieces with great care and craftsmanship and if treated correctly, they can last a lifetime. You can wear your Barrington pieces every day and we would love it if you did. If you look after it, it will look after you.
Sapphires are tough stones but can still break; so, it’s important to avoid hitting or dropping it on hard surfaces. We also recommend that you remove your jewellery while exercising, playing sport and swimming in the ocean.
Clean by polishing gently with a lint-free cloth. Our sapphires huggies should never be cleaned with chemicals or an ultrasound machine.
